Charleville State High School has three School Houses

Alamein:

This house is named after the series of battles in El Alamein Northern Africa during World War 2. Their colours are yellow and green.

These battles were a turning point of the War in North Africa for the Allies. The Australian 9th Division along with British Soldiers fought over the next 10 days.  Their skill and bravery are the stuff of legends!

With air support from the Royal Air Force, many ferocious ground battles occurred. On the 4th of November the German forces withdrew ending the battle of El Alamein. The Australians and their Allies pursued the Germans for 7 more months until they had cleared North Africa of their presence.

Tobruk:

This house is named after the siege of Tobruk which occurred during World War 2. Their colours are red and black.

The 6th Australian Division captured the town of Tobruk from the Italians in January 1941 and made it into a garrison for Australian and British forces.

In April to December of the same year the garrison was laid under siege by German forces. During this year the allies suffered many defeats but the Australians within Tobruk persevered and out lasted the siege and became a symbol of perseverance and ingenuity.
