Playing for me and my Community

25/10/2016
It has indeed been another productive semester for the Brass, Woodwind and Percussion program (BWP). This year, Charleville’s NAIDOC festivities were launched with an opening ceremony which was held at CSHS. This provided the perfect opportunity for our students to give back to their community. The ceremony showcased the growing talent of our school’s music department with the performance being broadcast live on 4RR fm. The Concert Band presented what they had learnt about Australian Indigenous music, utilising Aboriginal percussion and Didgeridoo. We are certainly hoping that we are involved in the NAIDOC celebrations for many years to come.

Music students were then given the opportunity to perform at the annual Charleville Performing Arts Festival during the first weekend of September. The Concert Band were awarded a Silver and for the first time, CSHS entered a Rock Band who claimed the encouragement award for music ensembles. The BWP boasted a record breaking number of entrants in the festival’s solo music divisions. The results are below.

I would like to personally thank all of the parents and care-givers for their continued support of the children’s music tuition as we continue to develop the program and provide opportunities for young artists.

Stewart Sloan (Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Teacher).
